Past Camp Programs
2002: It was a Wonderful World of Science. We learned about nature and stars and plants and rocks and rockets. 2003: We did experiments in Time Travel this year—each day we focused on a period in time, from Primitive Tuesday to Middle Ages Wednesday to the Roman Toga Party on Friday night. (We’d tell you more, but sometimes what happens at camp stays at camp. YOU know what I mean!) 2004: This was an Olympics Year and we had a full week of individual and team competitions. After several hard fought games of Ultimate Frisbee, soccer, volleyball and boat races, the Gold Medal for 1st Place went to the Red Dragons, followed closely by the Samoan Grizzlies, the Counselor Kripplers and the Red Raptors. 2005: Happy Birthday to us! Camp High Hopes celebrated its 20th year with a full house (40 campers) and an exciting Cabin Challenge Series. Each cabin built and successfully demonstrated its favorite way to spend the week; we had race cars, boats and a terrific lean-to in the woods. It was a hot week, so we also did a lot of swimming. 2006: In the Wide World of Camp, each cabin took on a specific activity for the week and at the end of the week performed a demonstration to the rest of the camp. The highlight was Cabin 7, who built a trebuchet which is a fancy French word that means “big machine that throws things.” 2007: Things didn’t go quite as planned this year. We had to move over to the “A” section which confused the chipmunks and skunks so much that we couldn’t catch enough of them to race against each other. Counselors in “B” section couldn’t understand why there were no campers in their cabins. 2008: Battle of the Bands… a rockin’ good time with The Blue Brothers, Guns-n-Roses, Pervana and Metaleeka. Also, we built boats that float… and some that didn’t!
2009: We lived in A section this year, and we took an interesting trip to various parts of the world. The weather was good (except the rainstorm and minor flood on Wednesday, but then we had big mud puddles to splash in). We spent a lot of time outdoors, and swimming in the lake felt good. There were llamas and chipmunks and skunks and paper swans, but no bears. There was Battle of the Bands - Round 2, and Friday morning we solved our very own murder mystery; fortunately, the “victim” made a swift recovery. We made walking sticks and used them to navigate melons through an obstacle course. We also had a guest counselor all the way from California, and somehow she inspired 2 other counselors to get married (don’t ask, I didn’t understand why either). |
